Horsing Around

Today is a school day, of course! Which we finished as quickly as possible so that we could go down to the farm and hang out with IVY!

Yes, Lilly has decided that this girl needs a better name, and Nina and I agree that Ivy is perfect. It is actually a good fit with her registered name as well.

I felt really awful last night. The fourth time in a couple of months that this has happened. I just get horribly nauseous and my stomach hurts. I got sick the last two times, but I managed to escape that part of it last night. I have decided to stick with milder foods for awhile. Ugh. I really hope that doesn't happen again.

I had some stuff to catch up on with the small groups that I am in and Respect Life emails to send, and then I taught a class to the co-op kids via Zoom. It was on the Aztecs, Mayans and Incan religions. I had to do some research, but it was pretty interesting.

I am going to do some more of Grandma Maggie's journals tonight. Tomorrow is a short school day, because Friday. We may go back down to see our girl in the afternoon, if the weather is OK.

She does love her snacks!

Snow, School and Stuff

Well, the snow keeps coming, but we don't have an unmanageable amount here. It's not even worth shoveling. It sure is pretty though!

Nina brought Lilly down this morning on her way to work. She is working in the basement and I need to finish filling our her lesson plan for today.

I do hope to get out for a walk this afternoon.

Missing Mass and Adoration today, but I am listening to Fr Mike Schmitz every day. The Bible in a year.

One of the reasons that I am getting back to blogging is that I have taken up typing Grandma Maggie's journals again and I realize how precious it is for me to go back and read about the lives of the people that came before me. I have also been putting my blog into a Word Document, and reading all the years of documentation and looking at pictures. Wow. I don't want to stop now. Facebook took a lot of the daily updates and I really wish that I had just kept it in the blog. I am off Facebook, but I may go back a bit and pull out some of the old news and pictures to put into the blog. We'll see.

This is what my Grandma did:

Nothing hi-tech there!

A Real Snow Day!

It's been a nice quiet snow day so far.

Lilly is home with Nina, so no school. I couldn't have gotten her if I wanted to....

I did, however want to make a certain recipe that Laura had sent me, which called for two things that I didn't have, so I bundled up and walked to Weis. It was wet and sloppy but not terribly cold. I could have actually dressed lighter.

I got the basement dusted and vacuumed and did laundry, and now I am working my way through a presentation on Mesoamerican religions that I have to give on Thursday. I have an hour. This is going to have to be cliff's notes of cliff's notes.

We had another little snow squall. It's pretty again...

Snow?

For two days there has been this big buildup.

A Nor'easter! A foot of snow! The Mid-Atlantic buried! And it may well be, but right now it is seriously under-performing, as Justin Berk would say. We have a few flurries here and there, but it's definitely not the blizzard that was called for.

I will, of course, be taking pictures as the day goes on, but it started with this:

and now at 11:00 we have this:

Well, well....

We'll see where this ends up!

2:00 Sunday Afternoon

4:00 Sunday

And we came out with around 4 inches.

It's not a huge storm, but it's also not a huge dig out. Just enough to be pretty, but still be gone by the end of the week!

More Didi

Just have to post a few more pictures from today.

Went down to the farm and took our girl out for a little walk around to see the sights. She is a bit on the pushy side, so we worked on that too. I think she likes her new home and her new people!

I am just so excited for all that we will be able to do with her!

John's New Baby

Yes! John has gotten himself a very nice little used Pontiac Solstice. It is in excellent condition and he was very happy to hear that the mechanic gave it a clean bill of health. He is having a blast riding around with the top down even in the middle of January!

A Wonderful New Addition

Well yeah, it's been a LONG time since I have posted, in fact I think they have changed Blogger since then, but I am bursting with news and I have to share!

Lilly is now the proud owner of her very own horse! She has been riding for a long time, and has had mixed experiences with leasing horses. She has not been able to really bond because there is always going to be a "good-by". It has been a long road but she has proven herself and I am very proud of her.

When the current pony turned out to be less than a successful match, Nina decided to just cut out the middle man and find a horse for them. It wasn't easy, but we are very hopeful that this lovely mare is going to be their forever horse.

Her name is "Divine Citizen" and they call her Didi. She is a 7 year old thoroughbred mare, with a fantastic personality and hopefully ability to match.

They have had the vet give her a good going over and she seems to be as sound as they need her to be.

We went to pick her up this morning and, while it wasn't a perfect loading experience, she finally decided to get into the trailer and come with us.

We spent some time with her at her new home, and she settled right in. She was very happy about the large field that she was turned out into and a nice flake of hay. We bundled her into her new blanket, and she promptly laid down and rolled, just to break it in.

She is going to be one spoiled equine, but in all the good ways.

It is SO great to be able to have horse hair on my coat and to be back in the world that I have missed so much!!
